The First Supper

Posted: 08/30/2003 in None

So, Lilith and had our first dinner at out new place. Much of the credit goes to Babydoll as she came over and made us dinner. We had a nice salad to start; romaine lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, nectarines, beets, feta cheese, caramelized almond chips, and greek with feta and oregano salad dressing. We had a chicken, smothered in a balsalmic vinegar and garlic sauce. On the side, we had some stir-fry peas and peppers with mushrooms … and potatos boiled, then pan-seared with the salad dressing. On the whole, it was a great dinner. When I finished off my first plate … Well … maybe I should just type up what would have been the transcript to the incident …

Babydoll : Are you going to have another helping?
Me : Maybe … I’ll see what room I have left after this salad …
Babydoll :
Lilith :
Me : … Uh … did I just say that?

Okay guys … for the record … I didn’t need to be reminded not to get any dressing on my skirt … OKAY? But sadly, it’s true … However, in my defence … that salad was wicked … so good …

Truth is, I’ve been eating a lot healthier in the last couple of years. Caesar and Ken will vouch for me. Soon after, Bonehead even followed suit … however, I don’t he’s had much luck finding a diet that works for him. He’s tried the no red meat … no sugars … no this … no that … But nothing seems to have worked for him. Much thanks to Caesar for putting me on a high protein diet … and not much thanks for Ken dragging me out to Memphis Blues, leaving me with a case of gout! (Just kidding, Ken!) I think think the results where pretty evident when I visited Babydoll and Berty the last 2 years.

Babydoll meets me at the airport, gives me a kiss and a hug .. then looks me up and down … “Where’s the rest of you?” … I hit Berty‘s to visit … “You look great, man … No, really … You look great. Been working out?”. I think the biggest thing was my diet. I started feeling good as even without so much exercise, I was trimming the fat away. After years of carbo-loading for my sports, my diet never changed … although I had since stop playing competitive sports long ago. Then, add exercise to me routine, and my clothes started fitting better … I lost a lot of fat … *BUT* not so much the weight. I actually found that my weight initially dropped, but it came back. Fortunately, it was more muscle.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the summer of ’02. I hadn’t been that active since high school. Basketball, volleyball, beach soccer, roller hockey, squash, badminton … all of that got me back into coaching rugby, soccer, field hockey … It’s been great …

So, yes … I eat salads now … so … bite me.

Okay, people … I’m finally moving into my new place. For the most part, I’ve picked up all of the needed furniture. I’ve put together my bed, and am looking forward to a good night’s sleep. I’ve still got a ways to go to really settle in, but at least the place is ready to be lived in. Now, Lilith and I have to get all the other living essentials … cooking utensils … storage items … cleaning supplies … blah blah blah …

The down-side? I can live without TV … but … NO INTERNET! So I quote Jenny-Baby“If I can’t check my email at least once a day … I’d die!” … We haven’t had the time to figure that stuff out. We’ve been running around town looking for ideas and good deals for furniture; we’re sick of Ikea now! So anyhow … I’ll try to keep folks updated as to what’s going on, but I doubt I’ll be online until mid-week at the earliest …

I’m finally back online! … but since the building is still in its finishing stages of construction my connection has been slow and choppy. Nonetheless … WOHOO!

Alright … down to business … Hail, Caesar! … a very happy, but belated, birthday to you, my good buddy! Hey, I called didn’t I? Hell, I even posted a belated happy birthday to my own sister … So don’t give me no lip … Biatch! … heh … All the best, buddy … And for the weekend … don’t be putting those quarters in the freezer before you hit Brandi’s, okay?

Now … for your reading pleasure … I’ll be posting yet another letter from Tina, Tina, [CENSORED] Machina. This one I actually received via snail-mail at Berty‘s. I know that my posting this letter would seem somewhat odd. Some can even accuse me of tooting my own horn. And I just know I’ll be getting at least a nasty e-mail, if not a phone call, from the lady herself about it … But frankly, I don’t care. I was touched by her words, and I’ll share it with you:

Dear Warz,

This sucks. I still wish you weren’t going. Although I know we’ll still have the phone, it won’t be the same. I’ve had so much fun getting to hang out with you and reconnect again. I can’t believe it will be over soon.

I wanted to say thank you for, once again, and always being such a loyal friend. As usual, you have been there when I needed you, and provided much needed support, advice and friendship. You embody all the qualities I respect, admire and hope for in a friend, and I feel lucky that I have gotten to experience all these wonderful traits for so many years. It’s immensely comforting and reassuring to know that no matter how much life changes or how far apart we are, I’ll always have at least on friend that willbe there, ready to lend a shoulder or share a laugh. And for that, I thank you.

You are an amazing person and I will miss you while you are away, but I know you will do well over there. I suppose it’s only fair to share you with the other side of Canada! =) Good luck with your studies and make sure you take a break once in a while. We’ll all be waiting here for you to get back. And remember, I’m always there if you want to chat, kill time, or even just hear a shrill, excited female voice! Take care of yourself, Warz.

I’ll miss you. =(

Call me lots and lots and lots and lots and lots then lots more and more …

Tina, Tina, [CENSORED] Machina

Well, she’s done it again … leaving me speechless … It’s the third time now, dammit!

… more to come later …

So, I’ve been crashing at Berty‘s this last week. Although he’s been away on vacation with his lady. He’s been a great a friend as anyone can ask for. Last time I was out this way, he put up with me. And now this time he’s left me here at his pad while he’s away. He’s been incredible. He and I, hardcore displaced Canucks fans, might just have to start up a support group.

The power outage, the biggest black-out in North American history, really screwed up my timing. Phoebe, the 4Runner, actually arrived on Wednesday night, but would not have been unloaded until the Thursday afternoon. Now, we all know what happened on Thursday afternoon … So, I couldn’t get my car until Monday, since those Searail folks don’t work on the weekends … not to mention they were pretty backed up.

Well, no car, and rolling black-outs made for absolutely nothing doing! So I lost a weekend. Now, ever since my Monday, I’ve been feverishly shopping around for furniture and looking for the best deals. Lilith and I found a nice futon from The Brick‘s clearance center. We looked everywhere for the most comfortable sofa/bed combination deal … so any of you visiting folks had better be appreciative …

I’ve also spent a couple of days researching, planning and resolving the issue that is my room. Problem: no closet. Solution: find a wardobe/armoir. The Hitch: starving student wanting to spend as little money at possible. Put it all together and what do you get? “Oi, my first grey hair … and another … is that a receding hairline? Shit! I’m going bald …”.

Anyhow, my room is small enough so that I didn’t anything large in there. So I try out a small wardrobe from Home Depot. Damn thing collapsed after I hung up 1 leather jacket. Scrap that idea. Next, try one of those white wire organizers for the closet. Hmmm … needs to drill holes … lots of holes … and oh, that won’t fit … too long … ah … too short … not enough walls … Boo. Next …

Looked everywhere for a solution. Even called furniture places for their advice. No luck. “You won’t have enough room … You might want to check Ikea”“You can’t do that … You might want to check Ikea”“You won’t want to do that … You might want to check Ikea”“What are you … nuts? … You might want to check Ikea”“Rrrrrrroooooommmmmm … ?” … nevermind that last one … don’t even ask …

To The Rescue: I-I-I-I-Ikea!*damn* that stuff can get expensive … Looked at some wardrobes. They tend to be a little too deep for my liking. Moreover, you open the door and you’ve got 1/3 of the width of my room. Screw that. Hmmmm …. sliding doors ….. hmmmm … means … lots of $ … forget it …

Back to searching. By now, the gas prices have gone up. Shitty. Still fearlessly braving the bumper-to-bumper traffic in the 30+ degrees heat, with the humidity making it feel like 40+. And for all that trouble, what do I get? … “Hmmmm … You might want to check Ikea”. *sigh*

Back to Ikea. At this point, I’d been back to my place a couple of times and realized that my room … is dinky. It really is. And if I stuff a big wardrobe in it, I’ll have zero room. That sucks. So … I perused by the aisles of Ikea. There it was. My answer …

… open concept … You know what? I’m not going to write about it. I’m certainly not going to talk about the money I dropped for it either. But, I know I’ll be super happy with it. After all, it’ my first place … my pad … my sanctuary … I’ll post pictures of it later. I think it’s the only way it’ll do it justice. Thank you, Tina, Tina, [CENSORED] Machina for the suggestion. I’ll have to ask Babydoll if I can borrow her digital camera to do that.

I should look up Dumbass and Donut Dude. But, funny enough, Lemon, another fellow SGS alumnus contacts me. He heard through the grapevine … the grapevine being Timothy … that I had moved to TO. So he calls me up … we chat … things are cool … we’ll be chilling some.

Speaking of chatting … Please note the time. I can’t seem to sleep. I just lie there … wide awake. Fortunately for me, Milkmaid‘s been keeping me company most of these nights, even during the wee hours of the morning. Our most recent form of entertainment has been an intense game of *scrabble*. We’ve been talking a lot and find ourselves amused at the power of anonymity on the net. You wish you came out to my going-away party now, don’t you? Huh? Right, PUMPKIN? … heheh … Here’s “thinking” of you, babe!

Aiight … best off to bed … long day ahead of me … Orientation starts in 5 days … and I don’t know my chin from my ass …

Started writing this thing on the day of … but I couldn’t quite post it … so this won’t show until later …

So I said I’d talk about my going away shin-dig … so I will. I really want to talk about two groups of people there …

So, we have Wilme, Scooby-Guy, Krispy, J-Biz, Just and Dougie. This is the crowd I grew up with. Our parents knew each other way back when. We’ve known each other since we were in diapers. At the end of the night, it was this lot that stuck behind and had those last drinks with me. Irish Car Bombs, baby! I wish that WeeWeeYan could have made it; I haven’t seen her in a long, long time. As always, Short Stuff was invited but as she’s out in our nation’s capital, she and her husband couldn’t make it out.

Casear, Ken, I-V, Ah-Ho and I had dinner beforehand. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. This group might be my closest circle right now. Casear and Ken have always been there. And at times, they’re stared me down to out-right put me in my place. For that, they have my full respect. I-V … now there’s a sweetheart. To put up with us guys … wow … You’re wonderful! And Ah-Ho, my no-longer-so-little brother. Truth is, you’ll always be my little brother … like it or not. Good times … bad times … we’ve seen it all. Cheers!

For the rest of you, I hope you’re not offended that I don’t go into detail and list you all: there so many of you! But you know who you are. And you are special to me. In fact, even today, I’m still living in the moment of that night. I often say that I don’t care to be the center of attention … but truth is, it was fun that night.

As for you folks who couldn’t make it out, no worries. I’ll be catching up with you soon, I’m sure. In particular … MilMil, Jo, Chev and Teflon … It’s been too long …

We Have Contact!

Okay … big-ass blackout knocked out everything … The damn TTC won’t be running for another couple of days. Because of the damn blackout, my car hasn’t been unloaded from the train yet. Which means I’m stuck without any real transportation. Spending a freakin’ fortune on taxi’s. But hey, what can you do, eh?

So I’ve spent the last couple of days with Babydoll and her family, and Lilith. Lilith and I are having some trouble moving into our new place. The trouble being no power … and nothing to move in! Last night we all resorted to a candle-lit dinner. Since we had no power, we used a gas burner and had hot pot. Good lord, was that dining room hot …

I’ve been up most nights, not being able to sleep due to the heat and humidity. Been chatting with people here and there. Mostly Milkmaid since she doesn’t sleep much. She’s the only other person I know that doesn’t get sleepy. I caught up with an old high school buddy here in TO, and just got word from another one via email.

Anyhow … 416.879.7768 … my new cell number for those of you who’d care to give me a shout some time … or just to call me from a hospital … *ahem!, ahem!* … or from a police station … *ahem! Tina, Tina, [CENSORED] Machina ahem!*

What the heck?!
